CogsCon Prep

I find myself madly prepping for CogsCon, the convention put on by my school, Cogswell.  I will be selling a few exclusive books, such as a pre-release of Unusual Tuesdays’ Chapter 2, a matching re-print of chapter 1, as well as an anthology of the comics I’ve done in the past year.  In that will be Snake, Playing Dead, Dead Hand Used Bookstore, Franky, Sky Bleu, Little m, and “Too Many Monsters”  There may also be a little bit of art in there as well.
Because of the anthology I find myself in need of some covers, so I’ve started making some.  Below is the Thumb for Sky Bleu, But I will also be making one for Snake, Dead Hand, and Sky.  The others have some covers but if I feel fancy I might make them some new ones.

Sky Bleu Sketch

I got to go to WonderCon not all that long ago.  It was great fun and I handed out a bunch of portfolios.  :) maybe soon I’ll be making other people’s comics!

Dead Hand and other updates

Many times I find myself thinking "hmm, I ought to write a blog, I have the art... but I'm not sure what to say...."  So here's some art with a goodly pinch of words.

This is one of my speed drawings with color added to it.  It will be on the cover of my next Sketch Dump.

And here's a picture I drew in my art concept book for my comic The Dead Hand Used Bookstore.
I have been working very hard to write the whole story down, taking advice from the writer of reMind Jason Brubaker. His blog has a lot of information about creating your own comic and then making sure that you can work all the way thru it.  Brilliant really.  If you haven't gotten to look through his website I would highly recommend it.

Fast Sketch

I like this idea of doing a fast drawing each day that is complete.  So I've decided to start giving it a go. I've actually drawn two today... but one was really drawn at 11:00pm yesterday and the other was drawn at 12:00am today :P

Dead Hand Used Bookstore and Sky Bleu

I've been working hard on writing the entire volume of "Dead Hand Used Bookstore" in preparation for getting it Kickstarted.  Most of the art that I've recently done for it are sort of spoilers, so I'm not showing any of it until the book is out.  Here is an image however that doesn't spoil it at all :D

While I work on that other stories just sort of... fly into my head.  Here is my new comic idea that I'm bouncing around while I'm not working on DHUB or any of my contract projects.  I've also created a lovely little logo to go with it ^_^.

I'm always busy XD

a few monstrous hurtles

I finally got my twitter and deviantArt accounts all linked up to my other sites and my twitter is all decorated with personalized art instead of the provided pictures that were originally on there.  There still some tweaks I want to make, but for now it’s looking good.

I scanned in one of my favorite concept sketches for dead hand used bookstore... that has a monster in it.  I dunno, sometimes monsters are fun to draws.  I splashed in a few colors, had a bit of fun.  I'm still learning a lot about colors, but this was fun :)

A New Art Gallery

I redesigned my online art gallery and updated it with new artwork.  After the theft of my computer I’ve worked at double speed to try and replace what was lost, and I really think I’ve done it.  I do enjoy the new site, It’s a single page gallery, no navigation.  My web design teacher would be proud of me.  A big thanks goes out to my buddy Aaron Miner who programed the site for me (my web design teacher wouldn't be proud that I’ve already forgotten how to code the page I design).  I really had a lot of fun designing the site, and I love how it turned out.

I’m working on a new full sized picture that’s based on the following sketch

It was going to be a companion peace to War Girl (below) but I got some ideas from Marc Gabbana and so I’m working on playing around with it further.  We’ll see where it goes :)

The first blog post

Welcome to my new blog!  I’ve been very busy this week as I found myself with a lot of space to myself and the ability to do whatever I wanted.  I’ve been working hard on illustrating a children’s book (more about that in the future) and I’ve been putting together my online gallery as well as setting up this blog and getting everything linked together.  Here’s a fun sketch that I doodled in my sketch book.

I also got to meet and talk to Marc Gabbaba who visited my school to talk about what he does.  That was really quite awesome, I enjoyed getting to talk to him and also see his amazing artwork up close.  I highly recommend taking a look at his website.
